Jennifer Phelps, MD

Experience and Training

I am Board Certifified in Integrative Medicine and Family Practice and have over 30 years of experience practicing primary, functional, and integrative medicine. Complimenting my formal medical training, I also pursued my passion for integrative care and trained in non-traditional ways of healing with nutritional and functional medicine, mind-body and trauma modalities as well as ketamine and psychedelic-assisted therapies.

Story

I am passionate about integrating physical, emotional, and spiritual healing modalities to help my patients find deep rooted well being. A key component of my work involves honoring the role that trauma and adversity play in human health and the power of healing in community. I have years of experience facilitating both group and individual mind-body therapy within populations traumatized by natural disaster, mass shootings and war. I bring this trauma-informed perspective and the many powerful mind-body medicine techniques into all of my work as a clinician. I received a Certificate in Psychedelic Therapies and Research from the California Institute of Integral Studies as well as certification in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy from PRATI. My vision is to weave mind-body medicine with consciousness medicine in a group healing model, supporting individual and collective healing.

Treatment Approach

My first priority is to make my patients feel a sense of comfort and safety. My relationship with my patients is defined by trust. Patients will find that due to my extensive experience and training, I have a unique range of expertise and thus the flexibility to match and integrate different therapy modalities based on the needs of my patients.

Frank Hermantin, MD

Experience and Training

I am a Board-Certified Orthopedic Surgeon, who for the first 25 years of my medical career specialized in diagnosing and treating spinal and musculoskeletal pain both with and without surgery.

Story

Over the course of my career, I have encountered many patients with back, neck, or musculoskeletal pain that could not be explained by the findings on their physical examinations, x-rays or MRI's. I did not perform surgery on these patients, as I believed surgery would cause the person unnecessary physical and emotional harm. Rather, I decided to broaden my knowledge base beyond the standard Orthopedic surgical training, in order to become better equipped to help the significant number of patients whose pain is real, but is not due to mechanical issues.

Treatment Approach

I take the time to conduct a detailed personal patient history, beginning with your childhood and progressing up to the present. I consider all of this often overlooked information when determining if the pain (which is in fact real pain and not imagined pain) may be a result of the pain perceiving areas of the brain being hijacked by the emotion producing areas of the brain. I take the time to sit with you to review all the findings. If surgical intervention is an option, I will provide a list of questions to ask the operating surgeon so that you will have a better understanding of the treatment and recovery associated with what is being recommended by the surgeon. If in fact your pain may be secondary to psychophysiologic disorder, I will support you in raising your awareness to the unconscious issues contributing to the ongoing pain. Utilizing mind-body strategies you can begin to address the cause of your symptoms.
